Painful Stiletto Shoes We Love
While our good buddy the Hot Pink Stiletto might look harmless enough on the mousepad pictured to the left, the actual stiletto shoe is far more dangerous - in any color. Ladies, we’re not stupid. Why do we love these high heels so much?
Don’t get me wrong, I love these shoes as much as the next woman out there. Actually, probably more. As I type, I find myself distracted and wondering if I could find a stiletto sandal with a heel that high in my size. But I digress…
The point is that these shoes do real damage to our feet and we love them in spite of it. Does fashion mean more than our own health?
How can a stiletto be dangerous to your health?
Okay, let’s not get melodramatic here. It’s not like wearing really high heels is going to give you cancer - that we know of - or give you the flu. (But that would be some crazy chemical warfare if it did give you some sort of super flu…) It’s the health of your feet that’s at stake.
Here’s the thing, you already know exactly how bad stilettos are for your feet because you can feel it the moment you take them off. The balls of your feet hurt from bearing the brunt of your weight all day long. Your little piggy toe that cried wee-wee-wee all the way home is cramped and the little piggy who had no roast beef is possibly even misshapen from the shoe. And your arches might be burning from being in such an unnatural position for so long.
Unless you’re like me. If you are, well…you have high arches and they feel better in stiletto position than in flats. But the rest is still true.
Why will we wear the stiletto in spite of the pain?
I can’t speak for everyone out there - and that’s probably a good thing. What I will say is this: How good do our calves look when we wear a super-high heel? And our butt? Awesome, right?
Don’t lie. You know I’m right.
Some of us might pretend it’s all about the height, but that’s crap, mostly. We don’t care about being taller. It’s not like we’re wearing stilettos to get on that hot new roller coaster or anything. It’s all about how they make us look. We all want to look hot and we don’t care how much it hurts. Pain is beauty, right?
I mean…I don’t care about any of that; I just want the height, of course. I’m speaking on behalf of everyone else out there…yeah…that’s what it is.
But, uh…I’ll totally wear the stiletto on that mousepad if I can find it in black…

I am with you 110%…no pain no gain…after 30 minutes my feet are numb to the pain anyway.

Alicia - That’s a great point. When I wear my favorite heels, I can’t feel my feet so I just have to focus on not tripping over the dead weight when I walk. Now, once I take them off…that’s a different story.
