Falling Off the Wagon

Welcome back, philosophers.  The Stiletto Philosopher returns within a personal admission of weakness.  Yes, after a month of sobriety, I fell off the wagon in a moment of weakness.

I’m going to blame the movie theater for this lapse of judgment.  We went to see Angels and Demons last night at the Studio Movie Grill last night.  It was all you can eat pizza night and, I have to say, they have one of the best tomato basil pizza’s I’ve ever had.  Good, good stuff.

But tell me…does it really make sense to drink water with yummy pizza?

Yeah, I didn’t think so either.  So, I had two Sierra Mists.

I wonder, does that count as falling off the wagon?  Technically, diet coke was my addiction and I chose a soda without caffeine or aspartame as my beverage of choice last night.  Then again, all the sugar in my system ended up making me sick so perhaps it doesn’t matter.

What do you think?  Is it just as bad to give in to the occasional soda as it was to be a full-blown diet soda addict?  Am I on the first step of the proverbial slippery slope?

I’d love some feedback on this one. Embarassed

Jen

My addiction was specifically diet coke. The only common chemical shared by Sierra Mist and Diet coke would be the carbonated water and high fructose corn syrup. I wonder if one of the side effects of aspartame was the constant craving to take more of it into my system?

I’ve actually been drinking nothing but water, iced tea and juice for the last month. It was time for a change and frankly, I don’t see the point in making it to alcohol. I never acquired a taste for any of it and prefer not to go through life in any form of a chemically-altered state.

Milk? That would be a negative. Beyond the fact that I’m lactose intolerant and the specific kind of Vitamin D they put into milk is the only one of the 4 not readily absorbed by the human body, I far prefer to get my calcium from fruits/vegetables as we were originally intended to do. Perhaps if they weren’t loading it down with harmful and potentially dangerous chemicals I might feel different…

Thank you for the wine suggestion, but I dislike red wine.

I don’t believe in luck; even if I did, I don’t think I’ll be needing it. I haven’t craved a diet coke in weeks and I have no desire to run out for another Sierra Mist. My only craving today is for water, probably to flush the excess sugar out of my system. ;)

I take that back. I’m also jonesin’ for some green beans and chicken…Guess I know what’s going to be making up at least part of tonight’s dinner menu.

I say it is wrong, if not impossible, to eat pizza without bubbles. The bubbles (carbonated water) may be what you were looking for. Personally, I think you are okay, as long as you are not having any cravings now, after the fact, you are still in the safe zone. If you want to stay on the safe side, I had to switch to soda water with lemon when I worked in a bar. (Diet coke was my down fall for a while, too). Replaces any soda nicely. Any resturant can serve it too you, its just the soda water without the syrup.
